Humans are social creatures. While we are born as individuals, we soon find out that creating and living within societies has its perks. Specifically, staying alive. We create "social contracts" to maintain these societies and punish those who seek to destroy. In our American society, we stress freedom, democracy, and the prospect of capitalism. These "perks" are what make us who we are, and are guaranteed to each and every citizen by the government of the United States.
That being said, I believe that in order to advance how our society functions, as well as protect it's people, social issues should be in the forefront of political discussion. Now of course this is not a new idea. Social issues are discussed every day; from poverty and education, to abortion and religion. My main focus will be to simply discuss the social issues I deem the most important. The main way I will do this is by identifying and comparing the way we look at social issues to other cities and countries around the world. We, as Americans, are too ingrained with the idea that the U.S. is "Number One," and that every move we make in this world is the best one. That kind of thinking however is naive in unproductive; the four social issues I mentioned above, one could argue, show that we are not in the forefront of handling these issues. While other societies may not offer the best solution either, it doesn't make it any less important to learn how they function and if there are any parts we can use or tweak to our benefit.
This blog will be my personal thoughts on the "ism" of our society; dissecting and understanding the systems and doctrines by which we function. While this is politically based, there will be no connection to democratic, republican, or any other party specific views or platforms. I will focus solely on the issues themselves and apply them to existing political practices. The purpose of this is to look at current problems and solutions, and evaluate if those problems are actually the problem, and if those solutions are the best possible solutions.
